Peterborough Utilities Group (PUG) is pleased to announce that they received the Gold Award for the Transportation & Utilities category at the Canada’s Safest Employers winner’s gala on September 6^th at the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex in Toronto. 

Canada’s Safest Employers Award was launched in December 2010 by Canadian Occupational Safety, a Thomson Reuters business who initiated the awards program to recognize outstanding Canadian companies that are making a difference in promoting the health and safety of their workers.

There was tough competition and a rigorous selection process by a panel of nine judges. PowerStream Inc. and the Vancouver International Airport Authority received silver awards in the Transportation & Utilities category.

PUG believes that all workplace injuries, diseases and accidents are unacceptable and preventable as PUG continues to promote improvements toward a zero injury workplace. PUG has achieved more than six and a half years with no lost time injuries and closing in on an industry leading 2 million hours with no lost time injuries.

Accepting the award on behalf of PUG, John Stephenson, President & CEO stated, “While this award celebrates our accomplishments to date, we are mindful that safety risks do not take a day off. Tomorrow is another day and our collective pledge is to ensure that all employees return home to their families, without incident – which is the real award.”
