Ontario Electricity Support Program and the Ontario Rebate for Electricity

Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP)

There is help for low income households. If you are an electricity customer and in a lower-income home, you may qualify for a reduction on your electricity bill. The OESP will reduce the cost of your household electricity by applying a monthly credit directly to your bill.

Ontario Rebate for Electricity

As of January 1, 2017, the Government of Ontario is introducing an 8% rebate under the Ontario Rebate for Electricity Consumers Act, 2016 (“The Act”) equal to the provincial portion of the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) on the bills of residential, farm, small business and other eligible customers. This 8% rebate will begin to appear on electricity consumption as of January 1, 2017 for eligible customers.

If you are not a residential, farm, or small business customer, you will have received a letter outlining the eligibility requirements.  A Self Declaration Form is included as required to confirm your eligibility should you meet the criteria specified.
