Electricity Retrofit Incentive Program

Highlights

Retrofitting an existing facility with newer equipment is natural business practice.  The Electricity Retrofit Incentive Program (ERIP) appreciates that when a business is making choices between different equipment options, the most efficient solution is the desired choice but not always possible due to financing or timing.  ERIP provides incentives to influence the decision in favour of the most electricity efficient ones.

Due to an overwhelming success in its initial launch, the ERIP Program will continue to be offered until December 31, 2010

ERIPERIP focuses on the areas of lighting, motors, heating ventilation, air conditioning and the overall electricity systems.  These areas cover the majority of and most important upgrades for businesses operations.

The objective of ERIP is to encourage energy conservation and load management by offering incentives for sustainable and measurable energy retrofits that result in on-peak demand savings and/or annual energy savings.

Maintaining a reliable supply of electricity for the province is a government priority.  By reducing peak demand, participating businesses will contribute to the increased security of the overall supply of electricity in Ontario.

ERIP is supported by the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) and administered by Peterborough Distribution Inc.

The Electricity Retrofit Incentive Program is made up of two project types:

Prescriptive Projects

This project type has predefined measures* with corresponding per unit incentives. These projects will tend to involve replacements and upgrades to existing systems. The incentive provided is based on the number of prescriptive measures installed. Applications for prescriptive projects must be submitted within 30 days of installation of the energy efficient equipment. Pre-approval may be requested for applicants to ensure availability of funds.

Custom Projects

This project type is available for customers requiring more specific solutions to electricity efficiency retrofitting using measures not included on the prescriptive measures list. The incentive offered is calculated on the basis of energy and demand savings as determined by a comparison between existing technology, equipment and systems and the new, more efficient technology, equipment and systems. Custom applications must be received by the utility and assessed for energy savings before approval and installation.

Note:  an application can consist of both prescriptive and custom measures.
