Sichuan Talin - Quentin

It is with great sadness that the staff of Riverview Park and Zoo announce the death of our older male Sichuan takin. With his gentle nature and enigmatic appearance, Quentin was very popular with our visitors. The first of our Sichuan takin, he came to Riverview in the spring of 2014 from the Assiniboine Zoo in Winnipeg.

For more than a year, we had been treating Quentin for severe metacarpal osteoarthritis. Unfortunately, his health and mobility deteriorated significantly, and he was no longer responding to treatments/medication. The progress of this degenerative disease had left him unable to stand or walk, except for short periods. Our consulting veterinarian humanely euthanized Quentin this morning. He was fifteen years old.

We would like to thank our staff and Dr. John Sallaway for their assistance with Quentin’s ongoing treatment and care.
