The Peter Karsten Award, presented annually for achievement in conservation, was presented to Riverview Park and Zoo for developing and supporting the Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre (KTTC).

“This innovative centre provides medical, surgical and rehabilitative care to injured turtles from anywhere in Ontario. It is a significant contribution to Canada’s conservation movement, and is unusual in the manner in which it has brought together concerned citizens, corporations and governments to work together in a common cause. It is also considered a major achievement for a relatively small zoo.”
- CAZA, October 2009

Riverview Park and Zoo wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Kristy Hiltz who played a lead role in the development of the KTTC, as well as the KTTC Directors and the many KTTC turtle care volunteers who have been instrumental in the success of this significant conservation partnership.
