Auger Method
The process to install anodes on to the water main does not involve exposing the entire length of the water main. The streetscape is left undisturbed except for a piece of sod that will be removed where the anode is to be placed. The contractor will usually use an Auger truck or a Vacuum truck. The Auger truck will bore 25 cm diameter hole approx. 1.5 m - 2.5 m deep down to the water main. The sacrificial anode is then welded on to the water main, the hole is backfilled and the area re-sodded.
