Volunteers Required for Free Water Testing

Household plumbing systems can corrode and cause unacceptable levels of lead in your drinking water. We are looking for volunteers who wish to participate in our free program to test your tap water.

If your home or place of business is served by municipal water in Peterborough, Lakefield or Woodland Acres and meets any one of the following criteria, you may participate in the program:

  • Your house was built either between 1882 and1907 or 1942 and 1947
  • You know or suspect there is lead piping as part of your plumbing system
  • You have lead solder on copper pipes (used in plumbing up to 1989)
  • You do not have a water softener

Testing will be carried out twice a year and each test will take approximately forty-five minutes. Results will be provided to all volunteers.

If you wish to participate in this program, please call the Peterborough Utilities Commission at 748-6900.
