Peterborough Utilities Commission (PUC) is responsible for supplying all of Peterborough residents and businesses with safe, clean water. Peterborough is fortunate to have a plentiful supply of source water from the Otonabee River. This water is treated in our state-of-the-art, government-inspected facility before being distributed throughout the City.
Each year the PUC lab tests thousands of water samples to ensure that Peterborough's drinking water is safe and aesthetically pleasing. More than a thousand tests are conducted to make sure our drinking water surpasses health-related guidelines. Find out more about water quality.
Common questions about our water supply are answered in our FAQ.
Keep Our Water Supply Clean
You can help protect our valuable water resources by using environmentally safe products, supporting community waste management projects and avoiding the use of chemicals such as pesticides. Never put chemicals down the sink or drain as they can end up in our water supply. Please use the Hazardous Waste Depot on Pido Road.
