Retailers
What you need to know
We are often contacted by customers concerned about the increase they have experienced on their energy bill after signing contracts with electricity retailers. Many have been surprised to discover that by providing their personal billing information they may have inadvertently committed to a sales contract.
If you choose to sign a contract with an electricity retailer, you willl not be eligible to take advantage of the Time-of -Use (TOU) rates with your smart meter. You will pay the retailer price as stated in the contract plus the Global Adjustment. Remember, you are under no obligation to sign a contract. Retailers must be licensed by the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) and must follow a code of conduct as set out by the OEB.
