Medical Equipment
If you or someone in your home has a medical condition that depends on electrically-powered equipment such as a home dialysis unit, respirator, CPAP unit, or special life support equipment, we encourage you to apply for life support notification.
Please let us know
Please email us to apply for life support notification or to let us know if you no longer require this service. Our office hours are Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Be prepared
If you require an uninterrupted supply of electricity, we recommend you have a generator or back-up supply readily available. From time to time, we may need to plan an outage or events beyond our control can cause power outages, such as, ice and windstorms, lightning, or downed trees. In these cases, we'll do our best to contact customers who are on our life support notification registry.
We strongly recommend that customers who are dependent on electrically-powered medical equipment have an uninterruptable power supply (UPS) connected at all times, or have alternative arrangements in place in the event of a power outage.
In preparation for a power outage, you should:
- Ensure that you have a backup phone; one that's not dependent on electricity, such as a cell phone or cordless phone.
- Have a plan to ensure the continuity of your life support requirements. This could include pre-arranging emergency plans with family or friends in case of a power outage.
- Consider purchasing a backup generator.
- If your equipment comes with a battery backup, remember to keep your battery charged and test it frequently.
