Environment and Social Responsibilities

Sustainability

Peterborough Utilities Group (PUG) is invested in sustainability and ensures cost effectiveness while promoting conservation and a healthy environment.

Some of our environmental stewardship initiatives include:

  • Arrange for installation of Electric Vehicle (EV) Charge Stations Across Peterborough Lakefield and Norwood making it possible for EV drivers to travel further as part of a larger initiative to install stations across the province with continuous infrastructure, allowing more people to adopt a cleaner mode of transportation.
  • Ongoing internal composting program.
  • Promoting water conservation programs at many community events.
  • The environment is one of our core values to promote and support resource conservation, sustainability and conduct business in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Have installed solar panels at the Ashburnham drive office as well as many other city owned buildings to generate electricity.
  • Reduced billing waste with the “No Envelope Return” Initiative reducing the number of envelopes by 67%.
  • The implementation of water meters allow for monitoring to advise customers of continuous consumption and advise on how to look for leaks around the house.
