Eligibility

  • Must be currently enrolled and returning to post-secondary education institution on a full-time basis
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada as a student
  • Be able to validate the above criteria by providing original documentation
  • Returning students must obtain an “Acceptable” performance rating on their end of summer work term report
  • Returning students will have eligibility to work a maximum of three (3) summer work terms

Types of student job opportunities:

Animal Care
The Animal Care student works with a team to provide care of over 48 species of animal including diet preparation, feeding, animal enrichment, exhibit cleaning, positive reinforcement training of selected species, assistance with animal health care and other animal duties. 12 hour shifts, including weekend shifts.
Park & Zoo Horticulture
The Park & Zoo Horticulture & Maintenance position assists the Park & Zoo staff with various horticulture and outside work throughout the Park & Zoo areas as well as general park maintenance activities.  This position does require weekend shifts.
Park & Zoo Maintenance
Park & Zoo - The Park & Zoo Maintenance student assists the Park & Zoo staff with various outside work throughout the summer. This position includes weekend shifts.
Public Educator/Guest Services
The Public Educator is responsible for research, development, and delivery of educational information to the public about Riverview Park & Zoo, wildlife conservation and Canada's biodiversity challenges.  This position rotates with the gift shop position, which answers inquiries/needs as well as merchandise sales.  This position requires weekend shifts.
Train Operator - Park and Zoo
The Train Operator position involves ticket sales, operation of the miniature train and public speaking.  This position also provides occasional support in the park with maintenance and horticulture duties. 12 hour shifts, including weekend shifts.
Labourer - Stores

The Labourer position assists the Stores staff with building and property maintenance, inventory and provide delivery services for various departments. 

Labourer - Water Treatment Plant 

The Water Treatment Plant Summer Student assists the Water Treatment Plant and the Pumphouse/Dam staff with various outside and inside duties including lab work.

Labourer - Generation
The Generation Summer Student is responsible for general building and property maintenance primarily at the Lily Lake Solar Farm but could include other Generation sites. 
Water Conservation
The Water Conservation Summer Student position will provide support to the Water Wagon program.  This position includes weekends.
Water Distribution (Engineering student)
The Water Distribution Summer Student provides assistance and back up to the Water Administrative Assistant and administrative duties for the Water Utility Manager.
